How to install a faucet

Among our clients

Installing a faucet can vary slightly depending on the type of faucet (e.g., kitchen faucet, bathroom sink faucet, or wall-mounted faucet), but there are general steps you can follow. Here's a detailed guide:

Part 1: Preparations

  1. Gathering tools and materials:
    • New faucet (make sure it fits the sink or installation location)
    • Adjustable wrench (or wrench)
    • Screwdriver (type and size depending on the screws in the faucet)
    • Pliers (sometimes required)
    • Flashlight (to shine light under the sink)
    • Bucket or towel (to catch any leaking water)
    • Teflon tape (for sealing threads)
    • Linen (optional, for sealing threads)
    • Gloves (to protect your hands)
  2. Checking the package contents: Make sure all parts required for installation are included in the faucet kit (screws, gaskets, brackets, etc.). Read the manufacturer's instructions carefully.
  3. Preparing the work environment:
    • Clear the area under the sink or around the installation location.
    • Place a towel or cloth to protect work surfaces and absorb spills.

Part 2: Removing the old faucet

  1. Shutting off the water supply: Locate the shutoff valves (flush valves) under the sink or in the plumbing leading to the faucet and turn them clockwise. If there are no separate shutoff valves, you will need to turn off the main water supply to the house.
  2. Disconnecting the supply lines:
    • Place a bucket under the pipes to collect the remaining water.
    • Use an adjustable wrench or pliers to loosen the nuts that connect the supply lines (pipes) to the old faucet.
  3. Disconnecting the faucet from the sink/surface:
    • Check for additional brackets or nuts that connect the old faucet to the sink or countertop.
    • Loosen them using the appropriate tool (usually a wrench or screwdriver).
  4. Removing the old faucet: Once you have disconnected all the connections, you can remove the old faucet from the top.
  5. Cleaning: Clean the area around the sink or countertop thoroughly.

Part 3: Installing the new faucet

  1. Preparing the new faucet:
    • Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the new faucet.
    • If there are parts that require assembly (such as handles), assemble them according to the instructions.
  2. New faucet location:
    • Place the new faucet in the mounting holes in the sink or countertop.
    • Make sure it is aligned correctly.
    • Install the mounting hardware (gaskets, washers, nuts) according to the instructions.
  3. Connecting the supply lines:
    • Connect the supply lines (flexible hoses) of the new faucet to the appropriate water supply valves.
    • Be sure to use new seals if they were provided with the faucet.
    • Before connecting, the threads can be wrapped with Teflon tape or linen to ensure proper sealing (it is important to follow the instructions regarding sealing).
  4. Tightening the connections:
    • Use an adjustable wrench or pliers to tighten the connections.
    • Tighten them firmly but be careful not to overtighten, so as not to damage the threads or pipes.
  5. Leakage test:
    • Slowly open the water supply valves.
    • Check for leaks around the connections and base of the faucet.
    • If you notice leaks, tighten the connections further.
  6. Checking water flow and faucet function:
    • Turn on the faucet and check if the water is flowing properly.
    • Make sure the faucet handles work properly.

Important highlights:

  • Safety: Work carefully and avoid prolonged exposure to water.
  • Manufacturer's instructions: Always follow your faucet manufacturer's instructions, as there may be specific installation requirements.
  • plumber certified: If you are unsure or do not feel comfortable performing the installation yourself, it is recommended that you call a qualified plumber.

I hope this guide helps you install the faucet!
