Installing a ceiling-mounted lamp

Installing a ceiling light is usually a relatively simple task, but it is important to remember that working with electricity requires caution. If you are not confident in your ability to perform the installation safely, it is recommended that you call in a qualified electrician.

Before you begin:

  • Make sure you have disconnected the power. To the area where you install the lamp from the electrical panel.
  • Check the manufacturer's instructions. of your specific lamp, there may be slight variations between different models.
  • Prepare the necessary tools: Screwdriver, cutter, voltage tester (optional but recommended), ladder (if necessary).

Steps:

  1. Remove the old lamp:
    • Open the old lamp cover and expose the electrical connections.
    • Disconnect the wires from the old lamp.
    • Remove the base of the old lamp from the ceiling.
  2. Connect the new lamp:
    • Connect the wires from the new lamp to the wires in the ceiling, making sure you connect matching colors:
      • Brown/Black (Phase) to Brown/Black
      • Blue (zero) to blue
      • Yellow-green (ground) to yellow-green
    • Use cable ties (fans) to connect the wires.
    • Insert the wires into the electrical box in the ceiling.
  3. Install the lamp:
    • Screw the new lamp base to the ceiling.
    • Close the lamp cover.
    • Install the bulb.
  4. Check the lamp:
    • Connect the power at the electrical panel.
    • Turn on the switch and check that the lamp is working.

Tips:

  • If the wires in the ceiling are too short, use extension cords.
  • If you have a plasterboard ceiling, make sure you use appropriate dowels.
  • If you are unsure how to connect the wires, it is best to consult a qualified electrician.

Safety:

  • Never work with electricity with wet hands.
  • Make sure you have disconnected the power before you start working.
  • If you detect sparks, smoke, or the smell of burning, immediately disconnect the power and call an electrician.
